It took me five years to get some time to think of a second personnal album ! In 2007, we (at the label) released the second album by Amélie-les-crayons, which was, like the first, quite a success in france. And as we also managed the tour, there was quite some work at the office. The last show was in december 2009. In the meantime, we had also released the debut album of French folksinger Maloh which i produced. At the time we were organising a tour for him as well, we decided with Maloh that there would be only two guitarists on stage, it was easier to convince theater places to take the risk of an unknown artist this way. The problem was we couln't find a guitar player who would use open tuning in the area. As time was flying by, i said i would do it. This threw me on the roads for nearly two years and almost 80 shows with Maloh, a very pleasant and successful tour which gave me quite some time out of the office. By the end of 2009, i then started recording songs at a friend's place. I had only 4 songs ready at that time but the process of recording put the machine back to work. In a couple of weeks, i had 4 more, then eventually 11. It was as if i had been stopped, muted for some time and that i eventually had room to speak. As i had no budget on that project, i decided to mix at home. This is the longest mix i have ever done. I was satisfied in the evening and threw everything to the bin the next morning. Things eventually took their place.
I hope you'll like that one then. It's more joyful than "Seeds" and i can see that my Irish influences are far more visible now. I also used orchestration on this album as i was also composing for films or TV. The themes are, just like in Seeds, love and war. There also are two more onirical songs : one about Icarus and his flight to the sun, the other about the Irish rebellion of 1798 and the battle of Vinegar Hill, and an instrumental one "Western" which was composed for the film on Amélie-les-crayons' 2008 tour DVD. I also had a try at putting an orchestra on the original mix of Rachel Song (that's just there on the left). As soon as the album is available, i'll twit you over !
